“Words cannot adequately describe how your workshops and you both have changed my photography and my life.  If it wasn’t for you and your Beginner Workshop I never would have found my passion and love for photography and never would have had the courage to open my own business.

I initially attended the Beginner Workshop just to learn how to take better pictures for myself and my family.  I never anticipated that the Workshop would open up such an amazing world to me.  Before the Beginner Workshop I shot only in automatic mode and really had no idea what all the buttons on my camera were for…sad to say but it’s true.  I had read a little bit of my manual and bought a “SLR for Dummies” book but reading really didn’t cut it for me and I was still lost.  I randomly stumbled across the Workshop through a wedding planner’s blog and I immediately knew it was something I wanted to attend.  During the Workshop you were both so incredibly willing to share your knowledge with us and clarify all of our questions.  It was great to see that you genuinely wanted us to learn and to take something great away from the workshop.  I personally walked away with so much knowledge that it took some time to absorb.  I know for sure that I better understood ISO, aperture, and shutter speed and how to shoot manually but it took me some time and a lot of practice at home to fully understand how all these things interrelate and how to perfect them.  It’s hard to say when I had my ‘a-ha’ moment but I know one day I was just able to take better images and truly understood how to shoot manually.  Once I had this moment my passion for photography grew exponentially and I knew I wanted to find a way to pursue a career in it.  I never shoot in automatic mode anymore…ever…my camera is always set to manual mode allowing me to have better control of my lighting, composition and overall look of my photographs.  The workshop truly gave me great information about the fundamentals and basic techniques of photography.

The Intermediate Workshop further expanded my way of shooting.  By the time I attended the Intermediate Workshop I had been shooting manually for almost 6 months and had been practicing non-stop to understand all the components of photography.  For the most part, I knew the ins and outs of my camera and knew how I liked my images to look.  The Intermediate Workshop really summed up and pulled all the pieces together for me.  You both effectively demonstrated how to interact with clients even in an environment that is not typical for most shoots.  I really gained an understanding about how you setup different shots, how you look for interesting compositions and how to get great shots all while interacting and engaging the client.  The live shoot portion of the Workshop really made me look at my composition in a different way and also introduced me to light.  After this Workshop I began hunting for the best light…I love sun flare now and feel that the way you taught us to use the sun at the Workshop has somewhat helped me to define what I want my style of photography to be.  Overall, the live shoot portion was an amazing learning experience not only from both of you but it was also great to see how other photographers shoot.  I am so thankful that we had the opportunity to process some of our photos at the end of the day.  I learned so much about Lightroom just in the short period of time that you sat with each of us.  I had never used Lightroom before the Workshop but because you were so thorough in explaining different aspects and because of the one on one time I was able to grasp the overall editing process and further apply it to my photos at home.  I walked away from the Intermediate Workshop with a greater confidence in my photography and with more information about shooting, processing and light that has definitely continued to improve my photography immensely.

Overall these two workshops have been a turning point in my personal and professional life.  I’ve been searching for a more creative outlet as a career and I have found it in photography.  I most likely never would have found that passion if it hadn’t been for the Beginner Workshop and the way it opened my eyes to shooting properly and creating better images.  I still have a lot to learn but know that both Workshops have truly increased my overall knowledge of the fundamentals of photography and have helped me grow as a photographer.  I could never adequately express my gratitude for how generous you both have been in sharing your knowledge and expertise, both at the Workshops and in mentoring sessions with me since.  It’s been an amazing 9 months since the first Workshop and I whole heartedly believe that your guidance has helped build my overall knowledge, confidence and passion for photography.  Thanks for everything!!  Can’t wait for the next workshop! :)

Sincerely,
Jenny :)

“It’s so hard to even start writing how thankful I am to have gotten to know you two and taken your beginner & intermediate workshops. Before I took your first beginners workshop in June, I was a lost soul. I had a passion for photography; I loved taking photographs and I had a vision of what I wanted to do, but I just couldn’t. I’d shake my dSLR camera so hard from frustration; I had an expensive camera, I was convinced that was it: the camera would do the rest, right? Wrong. Tired and confused I went to the Beginners Workshop excited in hopes I’d learn how to make better images. You two advertised ‘how to make your images pop,’ and I wanted that pop.

A few hours after the workshop, I was armed with so much knowledge about my camera that everything started to click as to why my images weren’t coming out how I wanted them to: I was using the wrong lenses, wasn’t using my camera in manual (didn’t even know where to start on that one), and didn’t understand how much importance lies in those three magical settings: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Armed with the generous information you two shared and countless questions you answered, I went home, studied my Nikon owner’s manual (now understanding what it meant when it referred to certain things), and viewed the slideshow presentation you emailed that you had covered that day at the workshop. I was ready to make a difference in my images. I had the tools, and with a few weeks of practice and patience, I conquered the camera meltdown.

Between the months of June and November, I continued to practice the skills I learned at the Beginner’s Workshop. I was SO excited when the Intermediate Workshop in November rolled around because I understood how to use my camera in manual (the techy side) and I was ready to work on interacting with my clients and making the most out of any location (the creative side). What I learned in this workshop will forever be held close to my heart: my world light up. Literally. I was introduced to a new concept that will forever change my photography. Light. With the live model shoot, I was able to focus on honing my creativity; by watching you two work I was able to see how you interacted with clients and what you would look for while on a photo shoot. After the shoot, you two were awesome in helping all of us edit our photos and sharing amazing tips about bringing out the color and depth in our images. I again learned so many amazing concepts that I couldn’t wait to get home and practice working with light and other elements to take my images up to the next notch.
Since November, I have used all of the skills you have taught in countless ways. Every time I shoot I feel I improve and to this day have your advice running through my mind. Of course, I still view the presentations from the workshops from time to time to hone my knowledge and soak up as much information as I can. Your workshops only lasted a few hours, but what I’ve taken away will last me my entire lifetime.

I cannot believe how generous you two have been in sharing so many tips that have made you remarkable photographers and how friendly and willing you were to answer questions and help in any way possible. With the skills and tips I’ve learned at your workshops, I have improved my photography immensely and I honestly would not be anywhere close to where I am today without your guidance. Your knowledge has allowed my passion for photography grow to heights I didn’t think possible, and I can only hope to someday to help someone as much as you two have helped me. ”

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Lizzie

This workshop was awesome! I attended the beginner workshop because I wasn’t quite sure if I was ready or not for the intermediate. I’m glad I did because Jen and Kim did a fantastic job of explaining how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO work synonymously.

Hope to see you both soon. At your next intermediate workshop : )

I attended both workshops that day. I am so happy that I did. I learned so much that I feel like I am still benefitting on a daily basis from what happened at both workshops. If anyone is wondering about whether or not they should take the workshops, I’d be happy to talk with them in person about how amzazing they were for me. The morning class taught us so many fundamentals, which are always good to learn/review. We also got to see really amazing photographs and learn how they were set up and shot. The afternoon class was also amazing. We learned to work with models, process real photos and we got more one-on-one time with Jen and Kim. The entire day was invaluable. Let me know if you guys will have an additional Intermediate class, an Intermediate II class or a workshop weekend! I will be the first to register! Thank you both so much!

The intermediate workshop was awesome! I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on the fundamentals and the intermediate workshop really was perfect for me! It was cool to learn how Jennifer and Kim get some of the shots and how to look at a situation and take creative photographs. Totally worth it!!!

I have to say that going to your intermediate workshop was the best thing I’ve done for my photography! Thank you so much!!

This was by far one of the best birthday gifts! Thank you Kim and Jennifer for taking us through the whole process of digital photography. Not only did you work with us, giving us ample individual time but you gave us a great balance of practical and technical know-how. Books and manual just can’t replace instructors and especially those that have a passion for photography. Thanks for your patience and excellent preparation and presentation!
